On the way to work today around 5:10am a deer jumped out of the tree line just before crossing over the green river lake spillway 2 lane bridge and I slammed my brakes and was able to swerve into the on coming lane while on the bridge and immediately had to swerve back into my lane so I didn't become a splat spot on the bridge from the on coming semi truck who must have seen what was going on because he also was on his brakes I could tell from the trailer with logs on it hopping a little bit and the sound of tires screeching, I never felt like it was going to slide out or do anything other than what I was trying to accomplish and I couldn't say that it would have worked out well for me if I'd been on my 2002 softail springer or my 2009 Tri-Glide for certain, all I do know is the Pan America is so responsive and agile to me that I actually was glad I was on it instead of my 2009 F150 also , sorry to go on so long and share my experience this morning but I didn't even need my coffee this morning after that and just felt like sharing, I've only had it since February 2nd 2024 and still getting a feel for it after about 1800 miles I have been on it.

I agree. It is the most responsive bike I have ever ridden.
It's great that you handled the situation so well!
I agree 👍 it made me think about the 80's and early 90's when I raced motocross and Hair scrambles on my dirt bikes lol , I believe that that also played apart in the ability to keep my head straight on while making almost subconscious maneuvers in a split second and made it through it 🙏

Glad you are ok.
Thanks 🙏, at 55 and bum knees and congestive heart failure I was a little worked up at first and still had 12 miles to go and probably had a little help from upstairs and the Pan America lol

Understand. I had a close encounter with mule deer near Devils tower. They didn't cross the road, rather turned and ran down the lane I was in. It will cause an adrenaline rush. They turned after 600 ft and went off the road.

I'm still processing how lucky I was hours later lol

Glad it worked out well for you and the deer. Our problem in Western Australia is roos and other road users. Ive only had my PA 2021 for 3 weeks. Had a few issues but had some real fun rides too.
What a comfortable responsive bike it is.
I bought it to ride across Australia in October 25 for the Moto GP on Philip Island. Gives me plenty of time to sort out any further issues in the bike or me.

Good thing you didn't bring up the shit stain you had to clean up later 😁
No sir I wasn't going to mention that 🤣 but since you mentioned it I didn't even have to drink any coffee that morning either and actually wrote the post while sitting on the toilet at work 😅, thanks for keeping me honest my friend 🤣😂

Glad to read your report on the experience since I am headed out next week on a 7000 mile trip from Idaho to Deadhorse, Alaska! I have only had my 2022 PAS for a year now and still getting use to it. Doug
Sounds like a great ride and time among friends for sure, hope everything goes as planned for you 👍

It's been over 6 months and almost 6000 miles since that morning and the PAS still amazes me daily, we have a love hate relationship on some days but now I will chase them f&$#ing deer 🦌 down if they startle me again, daddy is a "menace to society" on the Ole girl now 🤪

I wasn't so lucky, got to experience what hitting a deer on a bike feels like with my '21 PAS in Sep of 2022. Enjoying an early ride on Blue Ridge Parkway, looking left at the skyline, when two deer jumped right in front. Got one of them pretty good... Fortunately kept it up, but it ended up being a 7 month long repair process with part shortages, etc. They had to replace most of the plastics and the front subframe. After it was fixed though, never had any issues with it for the next couple years, other than the usual software-fixable ones.

Now being on a '24 PAS, I can't help but think that HD produced about as perfect bike for me as it gets. It does so many things so well.

Glad you were able to keep it upright and walk away with a story to tell , I too hit one in the 90's on a Ole shovel head and bike was toast and I was skinned up some with a limp for about 2 months and the aftermarket parts guys need to step it up another notch to make things easier to get when HD can't for these awesome machines, definitely my favorite bike to date over the last 40 years ..
