Hi Cantrell,

Congrats on the bike.

I also had a long time away, 25 years between when I sold my bike until the third child went off to college and I got back into riding. Been back 11 years now.

Please consider taking an MSF course to help knock off the rust. I did that and then decided to become a coach.

Shoop
Even though I was the oldest one in class, I did take the California Highway Patrol Motorcycle Safety Course. I would encourage it for anyone who's getting back in the saddle.

Side question: Shoop are you related to Dave Shoop also from California?

Congrats on taking the class. Does th CHP program have a 1-day for returning poeple and a 2-day for new people?

Regarding cousin Dave, we're probably related (not a common name) but it's hard to say. Years ago I found a geneaology record run by a relative at Georgia Tech. I am 8th generation born in the US. That record lists Johan Schupp as emigrating on Sept 3, 1939. Changed the name to Shoop. Landed in Philadelphia, moved to Lancaster valley (PA Dutch country) then moved to Armstrong valley PA, close to Halifax PA. I grew up there. There are probably over 100 Shoops in the area. My generation was probably the first to spread out, except for a branch that moved to Missouri in the 1800's.

Ask Dave if he has any family stories of attending a reunion in Halifax or near Harrisburg PA.

The CHP does offer a 1-day, 2-day or 3- day course, but the 3-day course is what you need to attend and pass if you want to skip the DMV road test to receive your Class M endorsement. The 3-day course is 1 day of classroom instruction and 2 days of road instruction
Take the 3-day, pass the DMV written test for motorcycles and you are good to go with the endorsement. Having the class M endorsement saves me about $300 a year on my insurance.

You get a discount for having gotten the endorsement? or for having taken the safety training?

Wow, insurance is much lower here in WV, at least for old guys like me. I now have 4 bikes and pay just a bit over $100/year per bike, Progressive. The dirt bike is quite a bit less since I don't carry comp on that one.

Just took ownership of a 24 Pan Am Special. Immediately changed to a Vance and Hines Adventure 450 exhaust. Installed radiator grill and bigger skid plate. Installing trunk and sport cases. Whats recommended for air cleaner mod? Don’t see many options.
Also whats the difference between billiard gray and the river rock or gauntlet gray?

You get a discount for each. License and safety course. I have a single motorcycle and pay $600 per year (and I am 52, with an outstanding driver record).

Yeah, the insurance here is WV is significantly cheaper. I pay around $300/yr for 2 brand new expensive bikes.

Late to the game posting but lurked since I took delivery in October of '23 of my 2021. CPO from Appalachia HD, it hasn't been without problems (Batteries, RHC Module, Main Harness and front forks) but it's all under warranty and I love this bike! Taken today on a balmy 39* PA winter day.

Good day, picked up the Panam special two weeks ago and rode it 300km(190miles) back to my home in Limpopo South Africa, haven't owned a bike in 13 years and all my previous ones were superbikes so I was very grateful for the comfort. I am very happy with the bike apart from a few niggles that the dealer has to sort out and I bought the sundowner comfort seat which will be here by next week.

Apologies for the picture, it's the only one on my phone currently.

Hello from North Carolina. Picked up this 22 special in December. Since then, I've added V2H panniers, bark buster hand guards and shields, skid plate, radiator guard, Tour Performance riser, saddlemen low seat and as of today, a larger noco lithium battery.
