So I have this 20k mi 23 PAS which is near end of warranty and it has problems.

Currently it's in the shop but not sure HD will replace stuff that isn't broke such as fuel pump (it's very noisy)

I've thought about buying extended service plan, but don't know cost just yet.

Then I thought how about trading for a new '25 and get updated tank, electrical charging system/battery, then order without the adaptive ride so to eliminate any electric gremlins I can.

Thoughts?

Keep the 23 and get the extended warranty through your dealership. If I were you, I would remove the fuel tank and have it sent out for internal coating (only a few hundred bucks) which will prevent future pump failures. For the amount you would lose in a trade, you could easily retrofit the revised charging system, purchase a spare fuel pump, and get the tank coated. The other issue is that most dealers aren't going to be stocking 2025s and won't even want to take a used Pan Am in on trade. If you insist on getting rid of your bike, test ride the competition before you buy another Pan Am.

I can coat the tank myself and attempt to modify bracket to accept the 7/8" taller battery. All this fairly low cost.

But I only gave $10k for the '23. Had a dealer yesterday willing to trade for a similarly equipped (laced wheels and adaptive ride height susp) for $12k sight unseen but still wanted to charge freight and set up. Figured there was wiggle room if he hadn't even seen the bike yet and knew it was in the shop.

To me I'd lose the freight cost and immediate depreciation of a pan am which is probably at least $7k.

But in exchange I'd pick up 1-2 model years and 2 yrs warranty.

Probably not worth it just a dream...

I would go for the extended warranty and ride the hell out of your 23. The warranty is pro rated so you will get money back if you decide to trade it in or sell it later. Also consider the tire and wheel coverage which has already paid for it self for in my case. My dealer charged me full list on the extended warranty and tire coverage on my 24 and it was $3500.00 for 5 years of coverage after the 2 years factory runs out. I was able to get the same coverage on my 21 for $3000.00 thru Ronnies HD, but if your dealer is taking care of you I would buy it thrue them.

I saw Rawhide HD shows to have a '25 with the accompanying VIN. Does not begin with the familiar 1HD1..... Perhaps it's not in their showroom yet but it's assigned to them.

That is sad that HD is going overseas especially seeing how they walked all over their labor force here in the US anyway. There at the end of the run in KC they would bring in "fresh off the street" labor , pay them half of the wage of the experienced hands then put them on a team and inform the team leader they were still responsible for output and quality. It's surprising anyone put up with such tactics.

It certainly time to consider walking away from HD in the whole if their bikes weren't so well refined. Rims cast in China, most of the chrome add on crap is all China, and so on.

I just picked up a BMW R18TC and although nice one can tell in many ways BMW missed it when it comes to some things. Simple ones like ZERO available storage in the fairing for items such as wallet, badge/pass/token, etc.

I just did exactly this with my ‘21 that had 34k miles, traded to a ‘24 and switched over my accessories. Cancelled my extended warranty and put that toward the new 6 yr unlimited mile warranty and never looked back.
Great Move!!!!

@johndhuff2, I am probably one of the more vocal complainers (whiners) about these issues and the way HD is dealing with them, however I still want to be fair. The issues are with the '21 - '23 units and some early 24's depending on wether the gas tank is coated or not. The current production seems to be problem free for the most part.

Wait you're right, I'm wrong. he 24's have display placement issues. I give up!

What I find puzzling is that, despite so many issues occurring, there has been no recall at all for either the ARH or the electrical system. I reported the issue to Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, but perhaps few people take such action. Or maybe the number of people actually experiencing these issues is extremely small
