I'm just looking for info and opinions from those who've ran both the Dunlop Mutants along with the OEM Michelin Scorchers. How was the mileage, how they did on gravel, wet and dry handling, etc, whatever experience you have.

I think my current set of OEM Scorchers are coming due and it looks like the tread is bubbling on the front tire even though it has plenty wear left (pic, I honestly can't tell if I'm just seeing things, if it's bubbling or if that's just the way it wears).
I've heard of issues with the Scorchers and just thought I'd see what others have found here.

I have 10K on the rear (punctured and replaced at 4K) with 14K on the front of my Scorchers.
Any help will be greatly appreciated and thank you in advance!

Check it out:

I've worn out two sets of Mutants. My newest set is on my cast wheels. I am
averaging about 10k or so for the Mutants, I could probably get 12 or 15k out of them if I was a gambling man. I have trailmax missions on my spoked wheels. Complete night and day difference.

They are absolutely the best tires (IMHO) for 70-80 percent on-road and are perfectly adequate for most mild offroad.

My Scorchers cupped like that in the front and rear's squared off pretty badly, even with plenty of wear left. Definitely time to replace. My dealer recommended slightly higher psi in the front to offset my mostly street riding.

As far as replacing, you have to honestly ask yourself what kind of riding you are doing. Alot of comments/threads on here will steer you towards 50/50 tires or 60/40. If you are rarely off roading then i'd suggest a 90/10 like the Michelin Anakee Road or the Dunlop Mutants.

The OE Scorchers did great for my riding. I live on a loose gravel road, about 1.5 miles unless I take the back way which is 7-8 miles of the same. I really didn't have any problems with them until I noticed the cupping. The rear is just starting to square off, but I still have room before I hit the wear bars.

A friend recommended the Conti TKC 70s. He has them on a 1250 GSA and says he usually gets 10K+ on them. He said they didn't do well in sand or mud for him but dirt and loose gravel (the worst of what I ride on) they were good. I've never bought Continental tires before, so I have no experience.

I have a sinking feeling I'll end up stuck in the indecision zone with too many options

If the "off-road appearance" is a thing for you, the Mutants look more street oriented, but I think they are a little more competent off road that the scorchers were.

Honesty, I wouldn't have given them a second look if not for the Fortnine video in the link I posted above.

Appearance doesn't matter as much as capability to me. I mostly do paved road but when the county lays down gravel, it's slick to ride on even in a car, all-wheel drive Jeep (my road scared my cousin but he has a weak constitution), and even my 4WD F150 turns into a good time.

The gravel they use on my road is both large and small marble sized. The OE Scorchers did fine but I think something else may be better. The Mutants looked like a nice compromise, but don't seem to be blocky enough. The TKC 70s look blocky enough and after looking when I got home do get good reviews, I'm now leaning towards those.

They all run about the same price + or - a few dollars so that's not a consideration. Since I do the occasional high-speed run, I'm trying to stick with V+ rated tires too, that means the Trailmax Missions are kind of out with a T rating.

I’m in the same boat as OP (or will be in about 1k miles). I’m leaning toward anakee roads, but I am familiar and comfortable with the anakee adventures. Was looking at the Dunlop mutants and metzeler tourance next 2s as well… so many choices. I ride 90% street and want good mileage and handling, but I don’t want to get stuck somewhere if I do go in some loose gravel or dirt offroad. Also definitely want at least as good handling as current stock tires for gravel roads. I think a key feature for me is dual compound so it doesn’t wear in the center as bad with many highway miles.

No shade, but Road 6 are rated at 100% on road. At least that what Michelin says (see my above chart). The 90/10 tires they offer are the Anakee Road

Haven't ran them , but the road 6 is far better handling than what came stock on it and I have not had a issue on the gravel roads and grassy fields I travel to and from work 🤔 I may give them a look in 15,000 miles or so when I wear the road 6 out 👍

Well, since I'm going into the big city next weekend to visit family and I know a few places there who will change my tires out, I bought a set. I went with the TKC 70s, they are dual compound and have held up on my friend's 1250 GSA and are a little more suited for my gravel road.

He outweighs me by 115 lbs along with being on the heavier BMW and still gets 10K+ miles per set. He also lives on a gravel road and never seems to have any issues when we ride together. Well, his wife does complain if we stay out longer than we said we would... but that's no fault of the tires.

My OE Scorchers will likely end up with a little over 14K on the front and over 10K on the rear (I had a puncture right at 3,300 on the odometer and replaced it). They weren't bad, did great for me in the rain, did well enough on gravel, and were plenty sticky in corners. There's an on ramp from Rt. 77 that merges onto Rt. 70 that recommends 45 mph which I regularly take at 70 mph, no fear what-so-ever.

There's still more tread; I'm not on the wear bars on the front or back yet. Likely another 1k-2k on both would be possible if the front wasn't cupping (I've read this is a common issue with Scorcher ADVs). I guess we'll see how the TKC 70s hold up, a search only returned 2 posts here about them.

Oh, the Mutants were my 2nd choice, if the county didn't maintain my road and use marble sized gravel, I'd have gotten the Mutants.

Thank you for the help guys!

Oh, i bet! The road 6 are much better imho than the scorchers/anakee adventure (same tire). Almost ran them myself but i wanted to keep a little off road pedigree, while maintaining great on-road performance.

Last fall I only got about 9200 on my original Michelins. I didnt have a luggage rack of any kind at the time. I installed the Motoz Tractionator GPS 50/50 tire. Its more like 65/35 to me. I ride 80% on the road and live on a dirt road. What a difference from the Scorchers. They seem to handle the road pretty good. They are slightly louder and dont hold the really sharp corners at high speeds like Scorchers. I can tell you at a down pour at 80mph on the freeway they hold and perform good. I was too skiddish to try any heavy curves in the rain.
I currently have slightly over 5k on them and the nipples finally wore off on the main tread but outer edge and sides still have them. I now have this year installed the Pazoma luggage system with all three boxes and the road noise went up a little bit but handling still is ok.

l just bought Dunlop TrailMax Missions, haven’t mounted them yet. I’ll let you know.

I've been running the Dunlop Trailmax Missions. Impressive road performance for the aggressive tread, but it made the handling way slower than the Scorchers. I am probably going to go with the Michelin Road 6's next, I use the bike on pavement way more than gravel or dirt and I just want to capitalize on the street performance that the pan has.
