I just got back from another adventure ride on my 2023 PAS. Lots of loose dirt and sand. I am now thoroughly convinced that the PA side stand is the absolute worst design I have ever experienced. Sad for an otherwise excellent motorcycle. Leaning the bike to the right when fully loaded to extend it and then having it get a super high lean to the left with little movement before it tips over if not on firm flat ground is maddening, if not frightening at times. I have been looking at and riding other bikes and their side stands are SO EASY to use, unlike the POS on the Pan Am.

Does anyone know of someone offering an aftermarket side stand that works like a normal bike does? I have the improvements made by Wunderlich, but they are a remedial fix at best.

Harley Davidson Adventure side stand.. 60 bucks. I put it on back when I first got the bike and I don't think I've even thought about it since.. I did poke a smashed beer can under the stand once when I parked it in a muddy area. But I think I would have had to do that no matter what bike I was on.

There are also a dozen different footprint enlargers from a lot of different places.

I wouldn't want the job of designing a jiffy stand for a bike that can automatically adjust it's own ride height and sag for people that ride and park in off-road areas. Not matter what you design, someone will think it's a POS. The only true fix would be to make it adjustable so the rider can put it where they want it.

The KLR 650 has the best side stand I've ever seen and I have to lean it a little right to deploy the stand when loaded.

Tobba611, do you have the PAS or PA with Adaptive Ride Height ? H-D states that it doesn't work with the Adaptive Ride Height option, so it won't work with the PA Special. Even though the fitment pull down menu says it works on a 2023 PAS. My PAS has Adaptive Ride Height which I thought came standard on all Specials(?). I wonder if that Adventure Jiffy Stand would work if I turn off that Adaptive Ride Height function when I go off-road? It might be worth the $60 investment to experiment.

I have begged Black Dog Cycle Works to make a better side stand.

They make a great skid plate for the Pan Am. They created an improved side stand for a KTM bike that needed a better design. Most of their stuff is for KTM's. But supposedly their main guy bought and likes a PAS. Hence the skid plate.

Please consider contacting them and adding to the customer demand!

There are two versions, one for ARH and one for without. I have the ARH version (part #50000264) and it is definitely better. Together with Wunderlich spring kit it makes the side stand passable.

Harley's adventure stand only gives you a bigger foot, to reduce sinking on soft surfaces. While it does a good job for that, it is the same length as stock (comes in two versions, one for ARH bikes and one without). So it does nothing to reduce having the lean the bike opposite due to the locking 'jiffy stand' design.

It will be interesting to see what performance improvement I get after I take the H-D Adventure stand off--the stand I was not supposed to install in the first place because I have ARH. 🙄

The other issue is having the lever to push out the sidestand so close to the front of the shifter. Too easy to accidentally kick the bike into gear with your heel while trying to find the stupidly designed thing. Like every other successful sidestand, the lever to extend the sidestand should be behind the shifter and better yet behind the footpeg.

Same issue 😪 these 2 kits from wunderlich solved both my issues with the side stand🙌

$20 Bucks usd on Amazon for the foot , about $100 for the side stand additional spring and heel/toe extension from wunderlich 🤷🏻‍♂️

I agree about the "leaning". My problem also was trying to get my boot heel down to the little ( too little)
Tab which brings the kickstand down/up. I found a piece of metal, shaped it to work and then drilled 2 holes
and attached it to the existing tab. Then painted it red so it would stand out to my 73 yr old eyes and
voila problem solved. Cost: $ 0.

FWIW. I put one of those aftermarket bigger foot prints on the stand to stop from sinking in soft material. It works but now I get a rattle on bumps cause the added weight. Some bumps cause the sensor to activate that tells the bike your kick stand is down.

Hey guys, I just had my bike cut off at 90mph on the highway. Definitely my side stand spring doesn't do a good job, talked to harley about it, the meant: The extension (adventure from sw motech) of my sidestand makes it heavier, therefore the HD spring (probably) cannot do it's job anymore. NOT SURE! now 25000 miles in with this bike.
Not sure if cut off and spring is related.
Question 1) Did you hear from a person driving a PanAm where the engine was just cut off on any speeds? (Funny thing, I test rode the Sportster S, same engine, and it went out while shifting from 4th to 5th gear, some something must be going on with this engine anyways)
Still the spring is one of those issues probably being related? Is 100$ for the Wunderlich spring worth it?
