Welcome to the forum.

What was the dealers reason for refusing to look at the bike?

Welcome to the forum.

Why wouldn't the dealer look at the bike?

Did you call Customer Service at H-D HQ after the H-D dealer refused to assist?

It happened on a Saturday. I had a tow truck waiting to load the bike up. Less than 30 minutes away. I offered to pay for the mechanic to stay late if necessary.
As it turns out, I was better off hauling the bike 1078 miles to my dealership.
Engine is a complete loss.
*Their service department wasn't up to speed with Pan Americas.
*No parts for Pan Americas.

So they would have looked at the bike.. On Monday..

As far as not being "up to speed" or not having any PA parts, is this an assumption or did they openly admit to that? Please post the name of the dealership. @saajaguarxk keeps a list of dealers. A bad one is good info.

Any idea what specifically failed in the engine?

Like most dealerships, they are closed Sunday & Monday.
They openly admitted to the parts and service deficiencies.
Grizzly HD in Missoula, MT.
Cam chain tensioner is what failed. According to the mechanic at Folsom HD it's not uncommon in the '21 PA's. They are working with HD corporate to get a new engine at HD expense.

"Not uncommon on the 21's" is an interesting statement. Since it's the same part number on the 24's.

Let us know how it turns out.

HD just agreed to replace the engine and other related parts at company cost. $9k +/-
I'll be on the hook paying labor charges. $1,400.
The bike is unrecognizable in it current form. Damn near a 100% tear down to remove the engine from the frame.
It was a cam chain tensioner assembly failure.
