As I ride half of my commute in the dark, I have not been liking the Adaptive Headlight, especially since a lot of my commute involves curves. I have read somewhere that the lean angle can be changed so the Adaptive Headlight does not come on so easily (Cagers are constantly thinking I am flashing them and it actually causes some dangerous situations when they get confused by the lights turning on and off). Is this something that the Dealer has to do? I cannot find anywhere to adjust the lean angle engagement (If I remember correctly, there were only 3 preset angles available).

I find the light from the headlight alone is not acceptable and I really do not want to pay an additional $800 to add Aux lights; I was wondering if there was any way to turn on the Adaptive Headlight (both sides at once) WITH the headlight and use it strictly as an Aux light. It could be adjusted down, so as to not blind any oncoming traffic. I would just wire it straight into the headlight switch, but I don't want to void my warranty. I almost feel like just having the Dealer turn it off fully (what a waste of a Special only feature).

I feel you. I angled mine as far down as it would go. That seemed to help. It helped my perception anyway. I'm actually not sure if it was bothering anyone or not, I just thought it might be, mostly because I could see their license plates reflecting when I was behind them. It would be nice if just the middle part of it stayed on all the time.

I do agree with you that it might actually be part of our own perception, but I do see negative (and risky) reactions from cavers.

I angled mine down AND I adjusted my headlight WAY down to where I am now using my High Beam as my main light. Huge difference in visibility when driving at night! I figured that since I never use my brights on my Daymaker knock-off on my Victory, I would be the same on the PAS. So far, I think I will be good on the lighting situation until I can afford hood Aux lights (have to buy those damn expensive hard panniers first).

I do like the function of the cornering light, but I was seeing the same issues as you with the cagers and it definitely seemed to irritate a lot of them. I haven't been able to find anything on changing the settings on the light so I simply unplugged it, but I do have the aux daymaker lights to make up for the not great headlight.

My 1,000 service is coming up really soon, so I’ll ask them to change the setting to the farthest lean angle. If that doesn’t help, I’ll just unplug it as well. Shame to waste one of the features on the Special. Adjusting my headlight way down and using the High Beam has improved my visibility to where I don’t even need the Adaptive lights anymore. Someday I’ll get the aux lights, just wish they were sold WITH the installation kit and for a decent price. I’m sure more aftermarket options will become more available soon. I have some lights from my side by side that I haven’t installed that I could wire into the installation harness. How do the lights attach to the brackets? Anyway you could take a pic of where the light bolts to the bracket on the crash bar?

agree the price is high for the aux lights and install kit...dealer gave me 25% off any accessories and free install on any accessories I purchased when I bought the bike, so jumped on that offer for a couple things. The mounting bracket is attached to the side crash bar about midway up. Sorry for bug infested pic, prepping for a 4000 mile trip and haven't got to cleaning the bike. I will say the aux lights work really well for me with just the low pair on. I know they say the upper pair are not street legal and for off-road but when all 4 are lit on those dark country roads visibility isn't an issue LOL.

Thank you for the pic. Love those tires! What are they? Yeah, I fully expected the standard 25% off first parts order thing and my Dealer told me that they no longer give that discount (due to people “abusing it”)! How do people abuse the discount by spending 75% of retail price at their dealership? I told them that I would have purchased my bags right away THROUGH THEM with that initial discount, but now I’m ordering straight through Harley. Screw them! I spent $24k on a new bike and can’t even get a little break to help them make more money off of me? I’ve never purchased a vehicle or “toy” that didn’t give an initial parts discount. Ok, rant over… breathe.

yea times are a changin fast. The dealership I deal with is still a family run business that seems to still care about customer service and retaining their customers.

The tires are the Dunlap Trailmax Mission. I've got about 1200 miles on them and am really liking them. I was very surprised how well they have done off road. To me they are better than the Michelin that comes stock. I also went thru a set of Michelin Anakee wilds which were great off-road but wear really fast on the road.

Jumping the thread for one question. What bags are those on engine guard? I've briefly looked and found sw motech has one but have bought, yet and that's where I installed my aux lights.

yea I did a lot of searching and that's all I could come up with that looked like it would work. Figured I'd give it a try and if they didn't work out, I could return them. I will say having the aux light mounting bracket where it's at helps with support on the lower wrap around strap. A couple lfull day off road rides and never had to cinch them back up, stayed snug both trips, and they do provide paint protection to the crash bars. If you look close at the pic you will see what I mean LOL. Quality is high and durabilty has been proven to me. Very happy with them.

Just dropped off the bike for the 5k service, and asked them to 'disable' the turn lights. I dont see any reason for them, never had them in 40 years of tiding, and all they do is irritate me seeing them through my faring.
That bag looks cool!

Did they give you a price to turn off the adaptive headlight? I just scheduled my service and they want .5 hours of labor to turn it off. I told them that I can’t see it taking that long to hook up the computer and make the edit. They put down the shop time for a complete download. The day after I picked up my bike, they had to redo the update and it literally took 10-15 minutes to do that.

They didn't give me any quote, I have the full service warranty, so it covered.

I don’t understand why we can’t be given the option to switch it off completely, have it only on when main beam is selected or on all the time. Would be a simple software update.
Well today I took the PAS in for the 1,000 mile service and I really didn’t feel like paying a 1/2 hour of shop time for them to try and figure out how to change the bank angle sensor settings. I spoke with the tech and he was basically saying that they would have to plug in the computer and search around the settings to see how to do it (in other words, they don’t know where the settings are or how to easily access them). I said that I would just unplug the adaptive headlight and he said that it would throw a check engine light, so I can’t do that. Time to angle the light way down and maybe cover it in some translucent film or Plasti Dip.
