My local H-D was able to get me a fuel pump in only a week (I thought they were backordered till Jul, lol?). Mine was making the hellacious screeching noise of course, and I could also hear it while riding even with my helmet on. PSI tested good at 57 psi. Bike has a lil over 8K miles on it.

They had to keep it overnight because the plastic nipple for the overflow hose on the filler was broken when they removed the tank and had to overnight an entire filler part.

I just had mine replaced at 9500mi, sounded like a garbage disposal running with nuts in it at power on. I hope it an updated part!
I was told it is not an updated part. Did you ask them to let you look at your old one? My filter was black on the end that you can see, not good! 95% of my gas is 93 octane non-ethanol from a station one block from my dealer. Rest is 93 super (with ethanol). I don't let my tank get below 1/4 since the pump needs fuel to keep it cool.....

My pump was acting fine when the bike went down for a month with the 4000RPM idle problem. Picked up the bike from the dealer and road her home. Next morning when she powered up the pump was making an extremely loud grinding noise until it had primed the system, then was fine. I didn't get to see the pump or filter, but I know pumps that make that much noise are not long for this world. HD has a problem with the fuel pump in the PA and they know it.
I'm taking off Wednesday and riding up to Barber for the races and twisty roads that have elevation changes. Planning on riding at least 2000mi of all goes well and no Hurricane comes along like last year. I have ridden the bike 500mi and she seems fine after all the work and I just picked up the extended warranty, so she will be good to go I hope.

Operation Fuel Pump: The whining noise from the fuel pump has been a long known issue, I changed to QFSI after market pump and yet the noise persisted. So today I decided to go to the root cause of the problem and dissected the fuel pump. My findings is that the issue is in the small pressure valve attached to the pump. Once cleaned the fuel pump is now very quiete and the whining during riding has totally stopped.

Is that valve just an orifice?
What was in it?

Good to know! I'm on my second pump (which was warrantied at 8K miles). Here I am 3K miles later and it's starting to squeal again ... dayum. I can hear it whining as I am riding also. I only use 93 nonethanol, and never let it get below 1/4 tank (pump needs fuel for cooling).

How did your filter(s) look and did you change it as well? Curious what was in the valve.....

Trying to post a Video of the pressure wall cleaning but it is not uploading. It says video does not have allowed extension. You can search for my post on Facebook in multiple Pan America forums using the keywords 'Operation Fuel Pump' where I have uploaded detailed videos.

Also do you know the model of the QFSI pump several of us bought from them and the pump we received did not work and we had to return them.
I actually managed to install the QFSI pump, the pump itself fits well, however you have to use the stock filter for it to fit perfectly. Also as I have posted the problem is not the stock pump or the fuel filter but the pressure valve. Once I cleaned it there is no noise. 10k kms completed on stock pump without the screeching in Kenya Africa, where we have no idea what clean fuel is!

No there is a round metal valve inside with springs which controls the pressure, the metal valve gets rust and makes the screeching sound, sand papering around the edges and putting it back solved the screeching sound. A couple of other guys also tried this and it worked.

Unfortunately staying in Kenya I don't have easy access to parts so even though my fuel filter was not that bad I just cleaned it with a carb cleaner and reinstalled it. Also even though I have a QFSI pump I have kept it on stand by and am using the stock pump and have done 10k kms on it in the past 3 months without the screeching sound after cleaning the pressure valve.
