My buddies 22 PAS has just over 2000 miles on it. Since day 1 he is constantly adding oil. Dropped it off at the dealership to hopefully get it fixed and after a week they said they can't find anything wrong with it. He explained to them while spiritedly riding with a quick take off it smokes out the exhaust and you can smell the burnt oil and the oil light sometimes come on, and sometimes when coming to a stop the oil light comes on and it starts sputtering and almost dies or does die without some throttle input. He is now waiting for a call from a specialist at HD after not receiving any help at the local dealer.Any one else had any similar issues?

Not from anything I've ran into. The ones i've seen are codes after a false start (starts then dies). I would try a different dealer or see if the dealer is willing to work with you and let the tech have for an extended period.

Is your mate doing "cold" starts ? or riding 20 klicks till the engine is warm.Perhaps the rings or seals on the pistons . Head gasket ? white smoke ? fuel leak it could be a number of things i would not ride it anymore and definatley get a second opinion.

Engine is definitely warm when this is happening. We were also thinking rings or a stuck valve. No visible external oil leaks. The weird part is it doesn't do it all the time. He told the dealer to ride it like they stole it to hopefully recreate the issue but they said it ran fine. Also when he picked it up after they had it for a week it was almost a quart low in oil!

That is the plan after he hears back from HDs traveling "Specialist"

Latest update on my buddies PAS. HD specialist used a camera to look inside the motor today. Front cylinder looked good, clean and normal. Rear cylinder however was nasty and full of carbon. So tomorrow he is taking apart the rear cylinder to see what caused the issues.

Obviousley the rear cylinder does not get the cool air but that said being water cooled it should not have a build up of carbon to that extent my tip piston rings crossed fingers he can get it fixed and that prompt.

My guess only:
1- Rear piston rings, specially because it scrapes the oil down from the cylinder, that can cause the issue.
OR
2- Valve (s) oil seal.
Those can explain the carbon (from burned oil) on the rear cylinder and oil comsumtion.

Well I saw my buddies bike in person this past weekend. I believe the issue that was found was a crack in the rear cylinder wall. So they are replacing everything to do with the rear cylinder. Now it just a matter of will it be done for our trip this weekend???
