I picked up my PanAm Special last week. I'm using it as a commuter, 60 miles a day. I have the Harley Branded Sena 30k headset. I know it is older, got it in 2016, but it is updated and has lasted well. It seems to work well, only the connection seems a little intermittent on the PanAm. With my Ultra and the Boom GTS, I would get a conflict with my phone/bike/headset; I had to figure out a boot sequence for things to work well.

Currently, I have the phone connect to the bike, then boot the headset so the headset connects to the bike. The music interface (playing from my phone) works well, but the "Push to talk" button fails to turn on the headset mic. The Sena has several different Bluetooth connection types that can be selected when pairing, is there a connection type that would/could/should work better?

Hey Fred. I have a Sena 50S, and a 20S. I've connected only the 50S to my PA and my iPhone 12. The push to talk, works with my settings. Have to you gone on the Sena APP, or website, to update your settings? I know you said you did the firmware upgrade. Sometime this week, I'm going to connect the Sena 20S, to see if the push to talk works, as well. I'll let you know if it does.

Hey Fred. I just now paired my Sena 20S to my PA. The "Push to Talk" works, in two different ways. The first, I push the button and wait for the tone, then I speak a command. My case, I had music playing, so I pushed the PtT button, and spoke "next track", and the music forwarded to the next track. I did this several times. The second is: I say "Hey Siri", and the PtT image comes on the main screen and I spoke "next track", and it did. So, the PtT works on my Sena 20S and 50S. I paired the Sena 20S, with my iPhone not being near me. Turned off the bike. Went and got my iPhone (which was already paired to my Sena, and previously to the bike as well. I then turned on the bike, then powered on the Sena. The PA then recognized both the Sena and my iPhone, and all then connected. I hope this wasn't confusing, and I hope it helps. Please let me know if you're able to get the PtT, to sync.
-Pair your phone in the Settings menu "add phone"
-Then pair your headset in the "add headset"
Handle bar controls should also function, to advance song, or back, pause and so forth.

Hi,

I have the 20s as well, I can track music and pause stop. However, when I hit the mic button or try to answer my phone I get a horrible screeching and it hurts my ears.

Can anyone share their settings with me to get this sorted out.

Thank you in advance

Hey Stretch! I’m out of town for the weekend. When I get back Sunday evening, I’ll look to at what settings I have on my Sena 20S, and share them here. Hopefully we can figure out why you get that squelching/screeching sound when you try and answer a phone call.

I did try some of the different pair options provided by the 30k, and the only one it seemed to connect with was"phone." Connection has been a little spotty, but it seems the most consistent is to have the headset turned on before I boot up the bike. The PtT button has consistently hit the phone, but here's where the android issue comes in and it gets stuck in a "phone lock" issue. I worked around this prior (with the phone-Sena connection) by always running maps/android auto) while on the bike. I haven't tied this with the latest setup. Usually, when I'm on the bike, I'm to-from work and don't want to mess with much

Fred,
Try this. Unpair our headset (Sena) from the PAS. Then pair it again, but without your phone nearby. Making sure that the Sena and phone don't pair, when Sena is turned on. After pairing the Sena to the PAS, turn bike off. Retrieve your phone and turn you PAS on, the phone should pair, then turn your Sena on, should pair with you phone, then Sena should pair on your PAS. The headset icon and the bluetooth icon should show at the bottom right hand of the screen. Hope this helps.

I have the HD branded Sena 20S that I bought because I couldn’t get my Carbo Freecom+ to pair correctly. Like Munaman, pairing the phone and the Sena directly to the bike and not each other I now have a reliable connection. The biggest issue seems to be a poorly executed Bluetooth signal from the bike. It cuts out and get static inconsistently. I assume it’s the bike and not the Sena unit. I haven’t tried pairing the phone and Sena directly to confirm it’s the bike Bluetooth but haven’t heard of Sena issues and my Cardo is a solid connection on my KTM. It’s not perfect but it works.

AsphaltS, I think you may be on to something there, with the spotty bluetooth connection coming from the PAS. I've also paired my 20S, and 50S, with my 2016 Roadglide Ultra, and have a great bluetooth connection. Makes one wonder......, a software update for the PAS, maybe???

I have a Sena 30k from 2021 for my RG and just bought a new one for the PAS. The new 30k is great. It's louder on my PAS and the phone, headset and handlebar volume adjusters are much more in sync than on my RG. I am digging it. But I'm jumping in here remembering all the references in posts about cutting out when the rider turns the rider's head to the left. I thought that's crazy. How can that happen? But the more I'm riding there is some type of connection loss or interference when I do turn my head left. It is NEVER permanent and now I'm just used to it. I experimented for a bit trying to hold my head in a certain position to the left to "catch" it in the act but no luck. I'm sure there's an actual answer and PROBABLY you all have already stated it here more than once somewhere but I haven't seen it. REGARDLESS I love the new version of this headset. I put it into a Bell MX-9 ADV MIPS helmet and love it. Even though that helmet is a little noisier than my other Bell, the Sena headset makes up for it no doubt about it. ALSO ALSO ALSO before I forget - the BLUETOOTH connection from my phone to the PAS display unit as well as the connection to the Sena is AMAZING. IT'S A BETTER CONNECTION THAN MY DIRECT CONNECTION IN MY RG TO MY PHONE. Not Kidding! Sorry I buried the lead on this post but THAT's the BIG discovery for me. Bluetooth from phone to PAS, no problem. From Sena to the phone or the PAS, no problem.
