I've had the Pan go into Limp Mode many times even after all the updates from Harley. Learned this one day on the side of the road. Was pissed after restarting many times and it still started in Limp Mode so I walked away from the bike. That was the fix! To get out of Limp Mode Turn off the bike, take the FOB and walk about 20m from bike. The FOB will no longer be able to communicate with the computer. The computer will reset. Just walk back to bike and it will start up normally. No longer in Limp Mode. This has worked for me everytime since then.

For me the "Limp Mode" occured while riding. The motor just revved up to about 4k RPM and stood there no matter what gear I was in or switched to. In the beginning I tried turning off the bike and turning it back on and it would just start right back up in "Limp Mode". With the engine revving like that you will notice the Engine Temperature starts going up. Definately want to stop so you don't burn it out. My Pan is a very early model and has had many updates from Harley. It doesn't go into "Limp Mode" much anymore but when it does I know what to do.
