Hi all,

I've been eyeballing the HD PAS since participating in a dealer demo ride down in Vegas last year. A few months back I thought I'd be financially prudent and go for option #2, a Yamaha Tenere 700, but alas they are more rare at dealerships than Big Foot in the woods around here so I've gladly shifted back to shopping for the bike I wanted in the first place. The bike will be an occasional commuter ride but ultimately I want to eventually ride up into Alaska and possibly head south of the border.

A bit about me: Late 50s and have been riding since elementary school. I currently own an immaculate low mileage 2001 HD Softtail Deuce that I may or may not sell off or trade-in...still on the fence with that. But, regardless I'm getting a Pan America soon. I have all of the usual noob questions about OEM vs aftermarket parts and accessories (bags, lighting, muffler, etc.). If there's a thread already speaking to those topics please let me know.

Cheers

Welcome to the forum @rickgilman1. Would love to see pics of your Softtail.
Are you already eyeing what modifications and/or accessories to get?
Thanks! Starting off I'll be looking at protection and lighting such as guards for the axles, brake reservoirs, headlight, radiator shield, and the headlight guard as well as the Day Maker Aux lights. Here are a couple of pics of my Deuce.

Welcome!, Make the jump I did and will not look back. Loved my 2016 Fat Bob. It is a rocket. All Progressive suspension, S&S Camchest, Frame stabilizers, Oil Cooler. My PA does it so well and smooth. Love it. Did find out how out of shape I was when I started riding off rode again.
Nice Bobber! Not sure I'll go crazy off-roading my PA, probably will keep it to gravel/fire roads! :)

Well folks, I pulled the trigger last night and picked her up today. I managed to squeeze in a 70-mile round trip to a buddy's house before returning to the house. And yes I kept the Duece! Already bought the Day Maker Aux lights just waiting for the install kit and a factory service manual. Next up is a rear box and rack. The pricey HD stuff looks alright but I see that Revzilla has some really nice ones by Givi that are bigger yet cost less. Any thoughts or preferences out there?

I went with the V2H rail setup with Pelican Vault ammo cases. I had the HD rails, but I didn't want to fork out the big money for the panniers. I dropped the bike on the left side...scratched the rail, but no damage to the bag or bike...little Krylon black paint, good as new.
I have the HD rails for sale on Craigslist Medford, OR.
Good choice on keeping the deuce. I still have my Ultra..badass machine.

I got my cases from europe and saved about $400, so thats always an option. I'd already bought the Harley rack, so had to relocate the mounting holes for the standard SW-Motech side cases but that was easy. And shipping was $30 and took less than a week.
Wow that's a great deal! Thanks! I just checked their site but they must be out of stock as the site wouldn't call up the ADV top cases.

Those pannier rails look stout! V2H? Never heard of them and Google didn't turn anything up.

This shop is out of Santa Rosa, CA.
When I ordered my set, he had the rails, but no bags. I bought the boxes seperatly from Buy cases for less. About $60 each.
