Hi, picked up my brand new Pan America Special 2022 for a couple of days ago (20 january 2023). Took her on a trailer to my home at Gotland (an island in Baltic Sea, Sweden)

But unfortunately i have had starting issues since day one.
The temperature is pretty cold here in Sweden right now -2C (28F). When i start the bike after it has been on the tender it starts, but if i stop for a couple of minutes (the time it takes to refuel the bike) i just have the "Whine of Death" when i try to start again, the battery goes down to 8v. in best case it starts in limp mode so i can take me home. Waiting at this moment for the dealer to send me a new battery so i hopefully i can run it until it's time for first service and hopefully also get the new update of BCM and ECM update (M1579)
(I live on an island in baltic see so i must go by ferry for 3,5h plus 1h driving to get to my dealer)

My 2022 is having a similar problem. It has even occurred in cold starts at temperatures of 16°C. I had the updates installed earlier this week. I will ride this weekend to test it.

Problem Solved!
Got a new battery from my Dealer, didn't do any good had same problem would not start when could outside.
Took the Ferry last Thursday and went to my dealer with my bike on a trailer (they covered me for my travel costs). Got there at 11.30. when the technician tried to start it after repeated starting attempts he got it to start but in limp mode. He took it in right away to see what was wrong. At 5pm they called me and says that my bike hopefully was fixed and they left it outside at 0 degrees Celsius. When I got there at 6pm, it started on the first try.
He told me that he first went through the mechanicals, checked that I had the latest version of starter clutch and starter solenoid (and somethings more..). Then he did 5 software upgrades (he meant that you can't only do the latest one (M1579), but also need to go through the upgrades thats were there before).
Got home on Thursday night, rolled the bike out on Friday 2 degrees celsius and it started on the first try. Been driving all Friday and Saturday and it starts on the first try 9 out of 10. The time it didn't start it was -3 degrees Celsius and I had to push the starter twice. However, it started in normal mode and no error codes. Experience that it both sounds and runs much smoother than before.
So fingers crossed, seems like they got the software right in the end:)
The technician thinks that even if it works now, that the battery is still a weak point and is too weak for all the electronics so a lithium battery is preferable in the future
