I have noticed several threads on the forum that include discussions on using scanners. Each of those threads focus on the problem being diagnosed; the scanner is secondary. One common point in each of the threads is the problem of getting a scanner that works with the 2023 Pan America and following years.

I have spoken with nine manufacturers of motorcycle scanners and surprised that I cannot get a confirmed yes on coverage of the 2023 and beyond.

A NO came from Autel, XTool. TOPDON, OBDProg
Partial from OBDStar does cover 2021 & 2022 but not following years.
A YES came from Snap-On tech support said ALL of their new units will cover the 2023 Pan America, just make sure you have the special cable.
A YES came from CanDo with an offer to send me a demo unit to test the compatibility.
I am waiting for a return call from ANCEL and MAC Tools.

I have also found out that the new O/S Skyline remains proprietary.

More to come . . .

Update: MAC Tools does not have a MAC branded model that covers the 2023 Pan America Special, but believes there is a unit from Cutting Edge Automotive that will work and can be purchased thru MAC or direct. I am contacting them now. Also, I have discovered a new brand, TEXA Spa that might have coverage; it is Italian. What makes me think they might cover Ducati! 😊

Good news,
🥳

I received this message from ANCEL this morning.

Here is a clip from the ANCEL website of the MT700 and . . .

. . . for anyone interested, here is the web link to the ANCEL site , MT700 page.

I have ordered one from ANCEL.

I was surprised to see Amazon's price was $100 US higher than ANCEL direct. Plus, ANCEL is currently $100 discount from SMRP so maybe a newer model is in the making or maybe competitors will be upgrading software soon. They must have a good agreement with Amazon to sell at a lower price than Amazon.

Snap-On said they have the Pan America covered already, but their unit Zeus is $11,000, Apollo is $5,000, and Solus is $3,600. I do not know who makes these for Snap-On.

The CanDo HD Pro III is on sale for $2,700, but mostly out of stock from retailers. Since CanDo is mentioning the Skyline O/S they are most likely close to a software upgrade and will be back at $3,400. This is just my guess and not based on anything from CanDo.

The Texa AXOne is $6,600, but I have not heard if it covers any Pan America models.

I hope this helps in the search for a good scanner for the Pan America. I will provide an update on my experience once the MT700 arrives.

My motivation in getting the scanner is to know as much as possible about the bike and head off any problems that might appear before they light up on the Infotainment screen. 😯 Also, that annoying yellow wrench for the brake fluid change that appeared earlier this year is distracting. :cautious:

Good to hear that because I've been on the fence with the MT700 be cause I have several others that said it worked but only clears trouble codes not service due codes 😁

I am curious too if the service resets can be done with this device. HD states it can only be done with the digital technician. Keep us posted man!
When I asked around and was going to buy the Ancel MT 700 they said it would do limited things and also would do ABS BLEED but NOT remove the little wrench for the 2 year reminder icon , only HD or a very expensive scanner running HD software 🤷🏻‍♂️

The MT700 is scheduled to arrive this Friday, tomorrow. I will test it out as soon as it arrives and give an update.
I've been thinking about a wish list for a scanner..

  • ABS Bleed
  • Service reset
  • DTS description would be nice but not required
  • Live view of RPM/ throttle position
  • Throttle position tune/calibration
  • TPMS modification / calibration / new sensor learn
  • Key FOB programming..
  • KEY FOB PROGRAMMING - I once had a Cadillac, a Silverado and a Blazer all on the same fob thanks to a Snap-On programming tool. I wonder if I could trick the PA to respond to anything else?

What else should it do??

Not just for the PA.. I would like the same stuff for other bikes and cars.

I'm getting closer. The MT700 arrived with 12 different connectors. The H-D connector from the MT700 does not look like the Pan America connector. Here is the H-D connector that came with the MT700.

And here is the Pan America connector on the bike.

I don't think they will get comfortable with each other no matter how I position the connectors. Am I missing something? Is there a different connector that I need to find?

Hope someone has a recommendation.

I may come across as a dumb hillbilly but I assure you I am not as smart as some lol, I also haven't found a way to reset the timer for Brake fluid service yet outside of the dealership on our pan americas , but definitely can do a abs bleed and clear codes and tune just about any motorcycle that allows it outside of the dealership, once I've had a device for a while i learn as i go and become pretty efficient with it quickly so I'm waiting for you to review that MT700 👀🙏

Excellent, ordered and should arrive Wednesday! Thank-you.

They sent 12 connectors with the MT700, but not that one.
Keeping my fingers crossed for you to have great luck and a review on it because it is more than likely going to be my next purchase if you have luck with it my friend 😁

The Euro 5 connector that was supposed to arrive yesterday is now scheduled by Amazon for Saturday the 2nd. I am anxious to give the MT700 a proofing run to make sure the unit works COMPLETELY with the Pan America as the manufacturer indicated in their e-mail.

My yellow wrench for ABS Service is GONE! 🎉

I connected the MT700 to my 2023 Pan America S and went through the menus for reading codes and communicating with various modules. All worked OK. Then the ABS module. 🙏 It allowed me to reset the date for service. ✔ I picked next year and stored the date. Magically, the yellow wrench disappeared. Yea!

I checked my brake fluid earlier and the result was < 1% moisture reading.

Now on to seeing how much this MT700 can do beyond the reset date for ABS service. . . .
