I was looking at my Pan America the other night while it was idling on it's side stand, and noticed for the first time that the two (what I thought were) tail lights don't actually light up when running. Evidently they are merely turn signal indicators?

The red tail light on the Pan America is very small - TINY - and tucked up behind the passenger seat, and my trunk box, and NOT very noticeable. And as someone who's been rear-ended on motorcycles, more than once, this is a BIG concern of mine. Does anyone else think this lack of lighting is an odd oversight by H-D? My Road Glide has a similar lighting layout on it's rear fender, and the two turn signal lights are always on, glowing BRIGHT RED, and only blink when activated by the turn signal switch.

I am definitely not a fan of the rear lights. My Sportster and probably most of the cruisers have both lamps illuminated (dual filament bulbs) until they turn into stop or turn signals. I'm currently saving up for a duo of the denali lights to mount up higher. Either on my top case or side cases if wiring is easy enough. I shudder to think what I look like from behind every night when I'm riding home on the highway.

I switched to smaller and brighter Turnsignal in the front.
In winter the rear end is on plan to change in to smaller turn lights.

Will those turnsignals have the ability to activate as turn signals/running lights/brakelights if added to the rear?
Those what i installed have only the Turnsignal but it is possible to install Turnsignal with all kind of Lights breake, Turn, running...
Here in Germany those i assembled are alowed according to the law regulation.

Pretty easy, just tapping into existing wiring. The hardest part is deciding how to run the wires and where to place the light pods. There’s lots of YT vids on people doing installs on various bikes.
I just received the hyperlights, and can't figure out how to tap into the rear brake light. Everything else is simple. How did you tap into the rear brake? The instructions say a red w/yellow stripe. Thanks!

You can go online and access the PA wiring diagrams from the HD service site.

Attached is a pic of the rear lighting wiring schematic. The rear tail light has a 4-pin connector which has three wires in it; blue, blue w/red stripe, and black.

If you take the seat off, you’ll see a 4-pin connector at the back left side which has these wires and routes back to the tail light. The wire is held in place under the back plastic fender cover with a few zip ties. You can tap into these wires under the seat by that connector. See second pic, wire and connector lifted up.

Test the wires before you do anything to assure yourself you’ve found the correct ones.
