I have read several text descriptions and watched web-based videos offered by individuals on the updating of the Infotainment software, some were good. The best I found is directly at the H-D Service Information Portal (H-D Service Information Portal)

There are many ways to reach the Harley-Davidson’s service portal. One of the easiest is to type Harely-Davidson.com into the url address window of your internet browser. You should arrive at the Harley-Davidson website home page. If you scroll down to the lower part of the home page you will see a listing for “Software Updates”. Select this item.

You should arrive at the Table of Content which has instructions for many different items and procedures.

The video titled Video 6. Instrument Module Software Update Guide under Revolution Max is an excellent tutorial. Even though dated 2021 it is still current. The links for the software upgrade and Release Notes are in the table just below the video.

One recommendation that was not in the H-D video that I found useful was to use the accessory mode rather than powering up the bike using the “on" position (not start). You do this by holding down the “trip select button” which is directly under the heated grip button, until the H-D logo appears on the Infotainment screen. I found this on Mike’s Motorbike Channel.

Another recommendation that I have found useful over the years is to use a new (new or completely reformatted), “clean drive” because previously stored software programs, uninstall programs, quick formats and delete processes, leave behind pieces of software on the flash drive that confuse updating procedures. The flash drive needs to be formatted as a FAT32 which is the default for a 32GB memory stick. FAT32 is older, but H-D probably uses this because it offers nearly universal compatibility with devices. Be careful as other sized flash drives cannot be formatted as a FAT32. Since my ToughBook (Windows OS) only has USB-A ports I purchased a SanDisk 32GB Ultra Dual Drive because it has both a USB-A and USB-C port on a swivel direct connection. I can use the USB-A to download the software revision on to the flash drive and then use the USB-C connection to interface with the Infotainment unit on the Pan America. H-D cautions customers not to use a converter cable or port extender because these devices are sometimes not direct connections.

I hope this is useful.

I disagree, i think the updates have fixed many of the issues. They have been light on enhancements but i'd rather have issues fixed first. I haven't had the "blank screen" startup since upgrading.
The map/nav is alot more complicated issue so i'm not super focused on that anymore.

I was on the H-D SIP this morning and found a new article for Pan America titled, "IFCU/Skyline OS Support Resources". It is a well written software update procedure for the Skyline OS. I did see a link for the software update on the site, but it was not active.

Some differences I noticed from previous updates were:
1. the requirement for 2 usb devices
2. an estimated 45 minute update process
3. there appears to be more safeguards in the update process than previously so that you do not end up with a push version of the Pan America. :)

At 45 minutes, the battery tender will be a MUST, even in accessory mode.

As soon as I see some software files available I will post an update.

When I purchased my MT700 from Ancel the tech told me about Skyline and that Ancel was working on it. Maybe the Ancel software update and MT700 Pro mentioned by DOCIHMC in the MT700 Scanner thread includes a Skykine ability? Not sure at this point.

I believe a few members here have touched on it and mention of it removing the ability to erase error codes and such 🤔 I'm not positive about it though, I will have to dust off the Ole laptop and dig around on the subject a little bit 😉

Hi DOCIHMC, the update I am referring to is Skyline (no version code assigned yet), not the update that came out last year _20240322. 322 did take away the ability of the owner to turn off the yellow wrench warning. Several members returned to _20230911 so that they could continue to reset the warning wrench. I have not found a date for Skyline release yet.

1. Infotainment isn't related to other modules. Strictly the HMI. Updating infotainment won't change ECM, BCM or any of the other modules.

2. The PA is not considered "Skyline OS". I've been effing with the bike for four years and I've never heard of any of it's software being referred to as "Skyline".. Pretty sure that's just 24 and up baggers.

3. Owners have never had the ability to reset the "wrench" (brake fluid flush reminder). The update you are referring to allegedly removed the owners ability to erase DTCs.. Which are not the "wrench".

My bike has been solid for nearly 3 years. It's not getting any more updates. I don't care what HD releases.

Unless you are chasing peak performance for the track or aiming to embarrass GS owners, I would highly recommend not applying any updates unless you have a problem or the update claims to fix something you think is important.

If It ain't broke. Don't fix it.
