Same here. Since 1986 I've had 27 new bikes of all makes and models and can easily say that my 23 Pan Am is the best bike of them all. The fuel pump, just like with the Ferrari and Boating crowd, has an issue with aluminum fuel tanks and 10% Ethanol. The chemical reaction creates a black soot that clogs the filter. Spend some time on Ferrari's forums and you'll read about the problems they have.

Ferrari, as well as boaters who have aluminum fuel tanks on their boats, run Sta-Bil 360 Protection Ethanol stabilizer in their fuel tanks.

That solves the problem.

Don't trade your Pan Am in for a dorky goofy GS with cylinders smacking your shins. What a goofy bike, and the people who ride them dress like dorks. They are a different breed of people. They all dress in Aerostitch outfits and wear healmets with visors and beaks and have aluminum hard bags mounted like they were taking a trip around the world, and ride everywhere in a stand-up position when all they ever do is go to Starbucks for coffee.

Also, I give Ferrari a pass with the uncoated aluminum fuel tanks. My 308 Qv (which I no longer own) suffered the issue you describe. Ferrari had completely rectified it before the 360 debuted well over 20 years ago. No mfg in the 2020s has an excuse for something that was identified and solved over 2 decades ago.
